FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Funds will help 日本av无码 support students in New York City and across the country at a time when learning disruptions have disproportionately impacted students experiencing economic challenges聽聽

(New York, NY) March 4, 2022聽鈥 日本av无码 received a $20 million, unrestricted gift from MacKenzie Scott to support the national nonprofit鈥檚聽聽early literacy intervention program. This comes as the organization is embarking on an initiative to raise more than $100 million over three years to provide a range of literacy support services to tens of thousands of students across the country each year.

日本av无码 collaborates with under-resourced public schools in New York City and 11 other regions across the US and mobilizes community volunteers to provide students with the proven, individualized reading support they need to read at grade level by fourth grade. Working one-on-one with their tutors, students become proud, confident readers and research shows that students who read at grade level by fourth grade have a greater opportunity to shine in school and beyond.

To deliver its traditional program in schools, 日本av无码 transforms a dedicated space into a reading center, complete with a library and teaching tools managed by a full-time AmeriCorps member or staff member. When the pandemic started, 日本av无码 rapidly innovated and launched an interactive online literacy tutoring program鈥攚ith access to a digital library鈥攖o ensure students could still receive their weekly tutoring sessions during campus closures and limited access. The new program model, 日本av无码 Connects, enables students and tutors to connect safely online, and includes a curriculum aligned with Common Core and state literacy standards.

Over the next few years, 日本av无码 aims to leverage 日本av无码 Connects and other programmatic innovations and community-centered partnerships to positively impact far more students than ever before. The contribution from MacKenzie Scott provides timely support as 日本av无码 aims to accelerate progress toward its mission of helping children become skilled, confident, lifelong readers.

鈥淲e are incredibly inspired by this transformational gift to 日本av无码,鈥 shares Primo Lasana, Executive Director of 日本av无码 NYC. 鈥淢acKenzie Scott鈥檚 trust in our organization is a testament to the history of impact we鈥檝e had over the last 20 years nationwide, and 10 years in NYC, and our vision for the next chapter of 日本av无码. As we grow to meet the demand of literacy needs locally in NYC, this gift provides the foundation for innovation and reimagined services.鈥澛

The extraordinary challenges of the past few years have exacerbated pre-existing opportunity gaps, with pandemic-related learning disruptions disproportionately impacting Black and Latino students and students experiencing economic disadvantages. 日本av无码 is committed to ensuring that all students receive equitable access to a high-quality literacy education, and聽聽has proven that 日本av无码 helps students significantly increase reading proficiency.

日本av无码 believes reading is foundational and that the ability to read transforms lives and empowers children and communities to thrive.
