Basic requirements to serve
Education
Must possess a high school diploma or GED at the start of your service
Citizenship
Hold US Citizenship, Permanent Resident or National status, (We cannot accept applications from international students on OPT/CPT visas, nor can we accept applications from DACA recipients)
Age
Must be at least 18 years or older at the beginning of your service (there is no age cap!)
Term limits
Have not completed more than four (4) terms with AmeriCorps

Benefits
AmeriCorps service comes with a modest living allowance rather than a salary or hourly wage. You also receive聽medical, dental, and vision benefits at no monthly cost.
Note: part-time service members do not qualify.

Segal Education Award
Service through the federal AmeriCorps program means you are eligible to earn the Segal Education Award at the completion of your service term, which can go toward:
- Paying future education costs/tuition
- Paying off existing qualified student loans
- Eligible educational travel
This award varies for 1700-hour, 1200-hour, and 900-hour roles.聽
Over 55 at time of service? You can transfer your award to a child, stepchild, grandchild, step-grandchild.
Serving 1700 hours in California? You may qualify for the “California for All” award, which would supplement your Segal Education Award, bringing the total amount to $10,000
Schools of national service
You can qualify for student loan forbearance during your service. Additionally, individuals currently serving and alumni have access to the , including 300+ colleges and universities that provide one or more of the following benefits to students who complete a year of service:
- Tuition matching for the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award
- Exclusive scholarships or fellowships
- Priority points for admission consideration聽
- In-state tuition聽
- Expenses like books and supplies, room and board, or other personal costs like transportation聽
- One-year enrollment deferrals聽
- Academic credit聽
