Carbon finance could significantly accelerate clean cooking access across Africa, yet businesses and project developers still struggle to secure the early-stage and commercial capital required before carbon revenues materialize.
Bringing together government, banking, financial-sector development, industry and carbon-market perspectives, this interactive session will explore:
- What makes clean cooking and carbon projects bankable;
- How financial institutions assess project readiness and future carbon revenues;
- Why domestic finance remains limited and what reforms could unlock it; and
- How blended finance, guarantees and concessional capital can crowd in commercial investment.
The panel, which will be moderated by Benson Ireri, Head of the Clean Cooking Delivery Unit in Kenya, will feature:
- Aminata Wurie, Head of the Clean Cooking Delivery Unit in Sierra Leone
- Edwin Cogho, Carbon Portfolio Head at TASC
- Elly Odhiambo, National Coordinator at Clean Cooking Association of Kenya
- Lucy Nyoike, Assistant Director – CEO’s Office at FSD Africa
- Ọlasunkanmi Abioye, Ag. Group Head, DFI Funding, Project Finance & Advisory, Investment Banking and Specialised Markets at Sterling Bank Nigeria
Through a moderated discussion and audience Q&A, participants will gain practical insights from different markets and help identify actions to strengthen collaboration between governments, financial institutions, development partners and the clean cooking industry.
